Sorenstam to Return to Broadmoor

Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam will be honorary chair for the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open, to be held at The Broadmoor near Colorado Springs. The Broadmoor was the site of Sorenstam’s first U.S. Women’s Open victory in front of a record-setting crowd in 1995.

Sorenstam earned a record eight Rolex LPGA Player-of-the-Year awards; a record-tying eight money list titles. She was named Golf Writers Association of America Female Player of the Year eight times and became the first player in LPGA history to cross the $22-million mark in earnings. Sorenstam played on eight Solheim Cup teams and was inducted into the LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame in 2003.

PGA Tour Faces Tough Sell in 2010

The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that the PGA Tour is learning a bitter lesson that the LPGA Tour has already learned — that sponsorships are going to be a hard sell in 2010.

UNM Remodeling Snack Bar

The UNM Championship Golf Course will remodel its snack bar space, with a projected completion date of March 1.

The movable partitions in the main room will be removed and permanent walls will go up to create a training room for tournaments and small meeting spaces, said George Trujeque, director of golf.

“We plan to dress it up and put in new kitchen appliances to improve the food offerings,” he said. The project follows remodeling of the pavilion, the golf course’s special-events building to the north.
