The 21st-ranked University of New Mexico Lobo Women’s Golf Team heads to the Bruin Wave Invitational this week.
The 54-hole tournament will be played Monday through Wednesday at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club (par 72, 6,282 yards) in Santa Clarita, Calif.
UCLA and Pepperdine are the co-hosts. The 18-team field features 11 schools ranked in the top-50 of the Feb. 24 Golfstat rankings.
A fundraiser for Katie Kempter, who won her LPGA Tour card last December, will be held March 7 at Arroyo del Oso Golf Course. Food and beverages will be served.
The event will be at the west end of the practice range from noon to 2 p.m. Kempter and her coach, Arroyo Head Professional Bill Harvey, will conduct a golf clinic. The event gives attendees an opportunity to learn about the financial demands of trying to compete on the LPGA Tour, said her father, Chris Kempter.

Thirteen-time LPGA winner Rosie Jones, a graduate of Albuquerque’s West Mesa High School, will lead the United States team in the 2011 Solheim Cup at Killeen Castle, Ireland.
Rosie, who won 12 points in seven Solheim Cup appearances, will field a 12-player team of the best American women players against a 12-player squad of the best European women players led by Alison Nicholas of England. Nicholas led the 2009 squad that lost to the United States at Rich Harvest Farms near Chicago.

The University of New Mexico Lobo Women’s Golf Team will host the annual Branch Law Firm Lobo Golf Clinic Saturday, March 6, 9 a.m. to noon, at the UNM Championship Course.
The clinic is free and open to all levels of female players. It will be taught by UNM Head Coach and LPGA/PGA professional Jill Trujillo, Lobo assistant coach Becky Dover and the New Mexico women’s golf team.
Registration is simple. Just show up at the course. Clubs will be provided to those who do not have them. The clinic will be moved indoors in the case of inclement weather. Call (505) 277-4527 for more information.
