North-South Sr. Challenge Seeks Entrants for September Event

The North-South Senior Challenge is seeking prospective entrants for its Ryder Cup-style event Sept. 26-28 at Desert Greens Golf Course in Albuquerque.

The three-round event features two 18-player teams from Northern and Southern New Mexico age 50 or older. There will be three competitive matches: four-ball, alternate-shot and individual. To print the entry form, click here. [Read more →]

SCG magazine Goes Web-only, Changes Business Model

Sun Country Golf is exploring sale of its printed edition and is pressing forward with a web-only business model to book tee times for golf in New Mexico and other golf destinations.

Publishers Dan Vukelich and Ken Adams announced the move in the May-June 2010 edition of the magazine, which can be viewed online by clicking on the magazine cover to the right.

SCG will focus the company’s attention on golf tee-time bookings for local golfers and golf-concierge services for visiting golfers. Sun Country Golf will strive to be a “one-stop shopping” site for the best deals in golf in New Mexico.

Kempter Cashes at Bell Micro LPGA

Albuqueque’s Katie Kempter finished at 4-over and took home $2,727 in a tie for 68th at the Bell Micro LPGA Classic in Mobile, Ala.

It was Kempter’s third LPGA start. She finished second to Amanda Blumenhurst at the LPGA Tour’s Q School last December. It was her first cut made.

Kempter learned to play golf in New Mexico. She was a regular at Albuquerque’s Arroyo del Oso Golf Course and a standout on the Sandia High School Girl’s Golf Team. She played for the University of Denver. On Kempter’s bag is Arroyo Head Professional Bill Harvey.

Tim Madigan Wins WAC Indy Title

New Mexico State University’s Tim Madigan, who led the Aggies to a third straight Western Atheletic Conference golf championship, won the individual title and was named player of the year for the Western Athletic Conference. Madigan was also named to the first team All-WAC.

Madigan, from Rio Rancho, also tied Tiger Woods’ scoring record at Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev., with a 64 in the first round with a double bogey on the 16 hole.

Kempter Blogs on second LPGA Tour Start

Hola, mis amigos!

There is so much to talk about in this email coming off my trip to Morelia, Mexico. I’m not even sure where to begin. I could probably write forever, and I’m warning you…it’s a very strong possibility that I will, so bare with me and enjoy the story (it even has a moral at the end of it…like a fable! haha). I will try to keep things in order and not ramble or hop around too much!

First, the course, Tres Marias! WOW!!! It is so different than golf in New Mexico. That’s all I can really say. To describe it, it was built into the side of a mountain and runs through canyons, ravins, and a bit of flat lands.
